Athletes are constantly bombarded with business opportunities from a variety of different sources. As one athlete said, “everyone is always trying to figure out ways to spend my money.” Our goal at BreakAway is to assist athletes interested in:

  • Purchasing an existing business

  • Purchasing franchises

  • Starting your own venture

  • Invest in 3rd party business opportunities

The BreakAway Program will provide you with the tools and the confidence you need to evaluate specific business opportunities. Our customized entrepreneurship course (for university credit or non-credit) can be taken online or in a classroom setting, the choice is yours.

“TIM HORTON” A True Entrepreneur!

On Thursday, May 15th, Tim Horton’s celebrated it’s 50th birthday in true Throwback Thursday style by recreating the original Hamilton “Store #1” to the wonder and joy of Guests at Yonge-Dundas Square in Toronto (at rush hour!). They came near and far to celebrate and as they did Tim Horton’s captured this video as a blast from the past.

The Digital Media Zone (DMZ) at Ryerson University – any Alumnus who has a unique and innovative business idea that meets the following criteria my apply to the DMZ to incubate and accelerate their product or idea:

  • enabled by digital media

  • brings commercial or social value

  • has a comprehensive business plan and prototype

  • has a business idea and team that fits with the Digital Media Zone’s collaborative community

  • has a business idea that builds on Ryerson’s reputation as a driver of leading edge education and experiential learning

Opened in April 2010, the Ryerson University Digital Media Zone (DMZ) is a multidisciplinary workspace for young entrepreneurs. Set atop Yonge-Dundas Square, and infused with the energy and resources of downtown Toronto, this hub of digital media innovation, collaboration and commercialization is home to both entrepreneurial startups and industry solution-providers.

The DMZ leads the way in experiential learning, creating an ecosystem of education and entrepreneurship. Students, alumni and other emerging leaders fast-track their product launches and grow their companies with access to mentoring, business services and office space. Since opening its doors, the DMZ has incubated and accelerated 65 companies and launched more than 110 projects, stimulating Canada's digital economy through innovation and job creation.
